Education is one of the most effective ways to lift individuals and families out of poverty. K2 TASO provides financial and academic support to needy students in the Kasungu District, covering school fees and essential materials so that motivated young people can continue their education.

Working in partnership with Bridges to Malawi (BTM), we also support access to digital learning and computer education in rural schools. Our team installs solar power systems to provide reliable electricity, followed by the donation of laptops, projectors, and other educational tools. The computers are preloaded with Khan Academy — a complete “internet without the internet” education package that brings science, math, literature, and global knowledge into classrooms that otherwise have no online access.

We also maintain these computers, train teachers in how to teach computer literacy, and provide programming and technology workshops for students. Many of these students gain valuable technical skills that can later lead to employment opportunities in Malawi’s growing cities, while others use their new knowledge to improve local agriculture and family businesses.

Teacher Training and Capacity Building

Teachers in Kasungu participating in computer training

Teachers in Kasungu District participate in computer training led by K2 TASO and BTM’s ICT specialists.

K2 TASO provides computer training for teachers from partner schools throughout Kasungu District. These sessions cover both foundational and advanced technical skills, as well as strategies for integrating technology into everyday lessons. The goal is to move beyond basic computer literacy and enable educators to teach creatively, effectively, and inclusively.

This work is supported by a dedicated team of local ICT technicians who visit schools monthly to repair equipment, troubleshoot solar systems, and offer ongoing professional development. Their consistent presence ensures that the technology remains functional and that teachers continue to feel confident using it in the classroom.

Impact

Since the program’s inception, dozens of schools have gained access to computers and solar power systems, and hundreds of students have developed essential technology skills. By connecting reliable energy, modern learning tools, and teacher empowerment, K2 TASO and BTM are transforming the educational landscape in rural Malawi — one classroom at a time.
